hydronil - crystalline waterproofing system

Do’s and Don’ts

It is utmost important to review the structure (if it is old) and understand the client, main civil contractor, their background of construction practices, quality of waterproofing and project time schedule. For achieving successful waterproofing projects, it is important to correct all drawbacks (cracks, joints, honey combed surface) of the concrete.

Do’s

  1. Make sure concrete is casted strictly as per the guideline of good concrete practices. It is important to have almost zero honey combed free concrete surface.
  2. Check whether concrete is water cured to a desired level of curing and no. of days depending on weather conditions of the site. It is a good idea to put more attention for proper curing, cracks generation, structure settlement etc to concrete surface for at least 15 days after concreting.
  3. Give full attention to construction joint, when it is casted. Construction joint should be thoroughly water washed, clean, free from soil or any other non-cementitious material and honey combed surface. Keep space for removing waste material from retaining walls/ vertical walls before full shuttering is put in place.
  4. For MIP application, it is important to mix the material in the green concrete at least for minimum 10 minutes so, that the ingredients of the additive is spread in whole mass completely and uniformly to get best result of the product.
  5. Surface applied products should be only applied to water surface saturated structure.
  6. For old concrete structures make sure that all non visible honey combed concrete or surface having non-cementitious material e.g. Left out of wood shuttering, soil etc are traced properly and repaired to original sound concrete.
  7. All Hydronil products need water curing for the crystals to generate in the concrete. Carry out water curing for minimum 5 days.

Don’ts

  1. Never apply Multiguard In-depth products on dry concrete surface.
  2. Hydronil products work on only cementitious products, Non-cementitious material should be removed from the concrete structure.
  3. Retaining wall or any vertical wall should never be casted on soil surface, as there is always a chance of soil getting mixed with green concrete while vibrating the same.
  4. Never apply Hydronil products to expansion joints.
  5. Hydronil products do not form flexible membrane , do not use on surfaces which need flexible waterproofing coating.
  6. Do not use Hydronil products at faulty structural designs.
  7. Do not follow shortcuts in waterproofing. It will not work on a long run.
